Motor system disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), pose unique challenges for dental professionals. Patients with these conditions frequently exhibit uncontrollable movements, tremors, hypertonia, muscle spasticity, and paralysis. These symptoms impair their ability to maintain oral health and complicate dental treatments, thereby adversely affecting both their oral health and overall well-being. The lecture explores the essential dental management principles tailored to these patients, emphasizing early intervention, adaptive techniques, and multidisciplinary collaboration. By addressing specific considerations for each disorder, we can significantly enhance the quality of life for individuals living with motor system disorders.

Dr. Rettman is a Hebrew University Faculty of Dental Medicine graduate and successfully completed her oral medicine residency at the Department of Oral Medicine, Sedation, and Imaging, Hadassah Medical Center. With a strong passion for providing comprehensive dental care to patients with complex medical conditions, the elderly, and individuals dealing with dental phobias. As a senior doctor at the Sedation and Medically Compromised Clinic, Dr. Rettman takes on a vital role in educating and mentoring oral medicine residents and dental students. Furthermore, she serves as the director of the Sedation branch at the HMO dental clinic, specializing dental treatment under general anesthesia, oral medicine and dental rehabilitation. Dr. Rettman’s commitment to enhancing oral health extends to her private clinic.
This lecture addresses the challenges and solutions involved in the immediate replacement of molar and premolar teeth. It includes discussions on contraindications, complications, and both traditional and advanced implant techniques. Attendees will gain insights into the MAX implant system, correct implant positioning, drilling protocols, and appropriate timing for implant loading. Additionally, practical tips, tricks, and prosthetic procedures will be provided to improve clinical results and ensure long-term success.
Dr. André Hattingh is a periodontist who graduated from the University of Pretoria in 1991.
In 2000 he completed a 4-year Master’s degree in Periodontology and Oral Medicine at the same faculty, which he received with distinction. More recently he finished a PhD at Ghent University in Belgium.
Dr Hattingh is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications, including textbook chapters, and has lectured both nationally and internationally. He currently works full-time in his private specialist referral practice in Sevenoaks, Kent, United Kingdom.
